Congrats to Chris Adams

MDNVAFCA President Chris Adams Wins Seat in Maryland’s House of Delegates

adams November 6, 2014 – Two years ago, members of the Maryland Northern Virginia Floor Covering Association went to Annapolis to oppose Maryland’s Workplace Fraud Act (WFA).    The WFA that was enacted in Maryland in 2009 threatened to put many companies in the construction and landscaping industries out of business, including Value Carpet One Floor   and Home in Salisbury, Maryland.  As President of Value Carpet One, Chris testified in Annapolis, about the impact that this legislation would have had on his business and other small businesses in Maryland if the law remained unchanged.  Thanks to Chris and other members of the MDNVAFCA who worked so hard in 2012, Maryland’s WFA was amended and many small business owners saw relief from the relentless attacks by Maryland’s Workplace Fraud Unit.

Bitten by the political bug, when Chris heard that his representatives in the Maryland House of Delegates were going to run for other offices this year, leaving two vacant seats in his newly re-drawn District 37B on the Eastern Shore, Chris decided to throw his hat in the ring and enter politics for the first time.  District 37B includes Talbot County and parts of Dorchester, Caroline, and Wicomico counties.   For the past year, Chris ran a very successful campaign, knocking on thousands of doors in his district, meeting his neighbors and would-be constituents, getting to know them and learning about the issues that mattered to them.  If you traveled to the Eastern Shore over the summer, you probably saw Chris’ big blue and white signs plastered all along your route to the ocean.

On June 24th, Chris and another political newbie, Johnny Mautz, were the top vote-getters in the Republican primary in District 37B, thus advancing to the general election.  This past Tuesday, Chris and Johnny defeated their Democratic challengers by a decisive margin.  Chris and the other newly elected and re-elected Delegates and State Senators will be sworn in when the General Assembly convenes at noon on Wednesday, January 14, 2015, for the start of the 2015 Legislative Session.  Congratulations to Delegate-Elect Adams on his victory!!
